April 30

Thursday, 4/30

Can you believe it’s the last day of April?  We are very close to done with 6th grade.  Remember to finish strong!

Latin America Government and Economy study guide – your quiz is next Thursday, 5/7

Our meeting will be today at 1:30, and we will be playing quizizz for our meeting (I will have the link/code at the meeting).  This should ABSOLUTELY help you complete your study guide, so have your study guide handy. It doesn’t have to be printed and you’re NOT turning it in.

Please be sure you have checked correctly before you “retake” the quiz

Our meeting will be tomorrow and I’ll post the link in the morning.

Okay, there’s still some confusion.  I’m going to do 2 things in this post: 1) try to better explain how you can see your grade and 2) list the people I don’t have grades for (no shame, no worry, just so those who have grades recorded can stop worrying).

1) When you go to Studentvue – click on Grade Book.  When the Grade Book opens and you can see all of your classes, you have to be sure you click on Quarter 4 at the top (circled in red) instead of Progress 4.

Then when you click on Social Studies, you’ll see your Latin America History Quiz grade IF you have one.  ALL of the grades I have are recorded, so if you don’t have a grade, it’s either because you haven’t taken the quiz or because you are one of the 5 people who don’t have names associated with their grades.

2) Here are the people who DO NOT have a grade:

1st period – Macee, Erin, Wil, Thomas, Hana

2nd period – Bryson, Reagan, David, Aryan, Jordan, Chris

3rd period – Angelique, Brady, Nevaeh, Lily

4th period – Cara, Lyniah, Zaria, Ashley, Abi, Brooke

5th period – Sarah, Grant, Malia, Max, Kiersten, Nia

Latin America History Quiz

Please check Synergy to see if your grade is recorded from the Latin America History Quiz.

You will need to be sure you are looking at Quarter 4 not Progress 4.

6 people took the quiz on Friday instead of Thursday, and 3 of those people have had their scores posted to Synergy – those three people are Kristina Jefferson, Elizabeth Hunt, and Davis Cauley. Three more people who took the quiz but do not have a grade in Synergy for the quiz need to let me know what they scored on the quiz. Aryan Singh is one of the three, but he cannot remember what he scored, so I need to hear from 2 more people.

Please check Synergy first to see if you have a grade already recorded.

Most everyone is good, but there are these very few who got a bad link that did not record their scores.

Week of 4/27 – 5/1, 2020

First things first – if you took the quiz on Friday, it did not record your names, so I need you to either send me a message on Edmodo or an email telling me what your score was on Friday.  This is ONLY for those who took the quiz on Friday.  Once I have that information, I will update the numbers of people who still need to take the quiz, but we still have several.

Standards of Focus:

SS6CG1 Compare and contrast various forms of government.
a. Explain citizen participation in autocratic, and democratic governments. [i.e. the role of
citizens in choosing the leaders of Mexico (presidential democracy), Cuba (autocratic), and
Brazil (presidential democracy)].

This week, we will quickly review government and economic standards, focusing specifically on the countries of Mexico, Cuba, and Brazil.  You will not need to turn in the assignments, they are for your information.  Government and Economics quiz will be Thursday, May 7 (which is next Thursday).  You will receive a study guide for this <—study guide does not need to be turned in, it should be used to help you prepare for the quiz.

Tuesday, 4/28

Comparing and Contrasting Governments  – to best view the powerpoint, open it, click Enable editing, click Enable content, then click Slide Show, then click From the beginning.  Then you should be able to just click through the powerpoint, seeing all of the information.

Comparing Latin American Governments organizer – Use information from the powerpoint to complete this organizer.  (open it, click Enable Editing, and you should be able to type in the document). Answer the questions for each row under each country.

Thursday, 4/30

Comparing Latin American Economiesfact sheet – this is just reading for information

economic vocabulary – practice by matching the definitions to the examples

Economy review song – a fun review of economies

Remember, none of this needs to be submitted.

7 people in 2nd period

5 people in 3rd period

April 24

It’s Friday – and that means….

CNN10!  Check it out here.  Nothing you have to tell me this week.  I think you’ll find the 10 Second Trivia interesting as well as the story after it.  It’s CNN 9:53 today.  Have a great weekend!

I will be posting some work on Sunday that just needs to be done by the end of Tuesday and it does NOT need to be turned in, it is for YOUR information.  If you’re keeping up with your notebook, you can put it in there (if you print it out), but it’s also okay just to save it to your computer or device. We are looking at the governments of 3 countries of Latin America.  This is mostly review as you’ve learned about government structures before, but you do need some idea about the governments of these countries.  We WILL have a quiz on government and economy, so be preparing for that.

I miss you all so much. I hope your families and friends have all stayed healthy and safe during this time. Please know that if you have needs or problems, I will do anything I can to help.  I am very fortunate to be able to do my work from home (even though it looks much different), and my husband’s job was already work-from-home, so not very different for him.  I’m also a homebody (like to be at home) and an introvert (get my energy from alone time), so this is easier for me than for a lot of people.  But I still miss so much about being at school with all of you.  Take care and remember that I see you (even if I can’t really see you), I know you, I care about you, and I love you.

Thursday, 4/23

Don’t forget to take the quiz today.  You have the rest of the day/night to do it.  If you’re not sure of the password to get to the link, go to Edmodo and use the link there.  There are still quite a few people who have not taken the quiz yet.  We will be moving on to government and economics, so you need to complete this quiz first.
