Early Release Day went quickly!
We continued working on the Which Explorer organizer and most classes completed this. We will continue talking about the Age of Exploration, but we are going to focus on our Europe political maps and work on physical features as well for a little while.

I’m not sure what happened with the blog. My “Week of” post was still sitting there waiting to be published, and my Monday post disappeared. :O
So, today we reviewed the test so students would understand what they missed and why. Students received Reflection and Remediation sheets yesterday. Everyone benefits from reflection, so all students did that portion of the sheet. Those who need to do a retake (see below) will need to also complete the remediation portion AND get a parent signature.
We also started on a chart of European Explorers, called Which Explorer? We will complete this tomorrow.
Students disappointed with their score on a major, summative assessment will be afforded the opportunity to re-take a similar assessment within 5 days of the assessment being scored and posted in Synergy. Re-take options will be posted the day the assessment is scored and entered into the Synergy gradebook. These opportunities will be available during class, before or after school as needed. Remediation/review must be completed prior to the re-take. Mrs. Chafin will assign remediation assignments as needed following summative assessments. It is up to the student to take advantage of re-take opportunities. Mrs. Chafin will work with any student who wants to retake within that 5 day window only.
Retake Opportunity will always be posted on the Retake Opportunity Page. The Retake for this first summative assessment will be Thursday, August 30. Please see the Reflection and Remediation sheet for details.

Today we watched a video on Thinking Like a Historian (<—– you can watch it at that link. It may ask you to sign up, but there is no cost to do so, and no special log-in needed for that), to help us understand the difference between “historical perspective” and “presentism.”
We also watched a BrainPop on Carbon Dating. 2nd period did the best on the quiz for that, so a reward may be available for you tomorrow!
And, we completed a crossword puzzle on Thinking Like a Historian, which will be a helpful tool for studying for your Summative Assessment on Friday.
